Navistar Recalls 2018-2019 International HX and LT Trucks for Fire Risk
Navistar is recalling 2018-2019 International HX and LT trucks because heat from the air compressor may damage fuel lines, increasing fire risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel line damage) that explicitly increases the risk of a fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain 2018-2019 International HX and LT trucks equipped with a Cummins ISX engine and a Wabco 37.4 air compressor. The recall addresses a defect where the air compressor discharge line may contact the fuel filter inlet and outlet lines.
Heat generated by the air compressor discharge line can cause damage to the fuel lines. Continued heat damage could cause the fuel lines to rupture, resulting in a fuel leak and increasing the risk of a fire.
Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the straight fitting on the air compressor discharge line and the discharge line with a 45-degree fitting and a redesigned discharge line, free of charge. The recall began on July 20, 2018. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
