Navistar Recalls 2014-2015 International TranStar Trucks for Fire Risk

Navistar is recalling 2014-2015 International TranStar trucks because a turbocharger oil line may leak near the exhaust, increasing fire risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of fire due to oil leaking near the exhaust manifold, which meets the rubric criteria for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural vehicle defects.

Plain-English summary

Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 International TranStar vehicles manufactured between March 5, 2013, and December 12, 2014. These vehicles are equipped with specific Cummins Westport ISL G engines manufactured between September 13, 2007, and September 23, 2015.

The recall addresses a defect where the turbocharger oil supply line may contact or interfere with the turbocharger inlet elbow, clean air intake clamp, or air fuel control tube. This interference can result in an oil leak. If oil leaks in the proximity of the engine exhaust manifold, there is an increased risk of a fire.

Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for oil supply line interference or damage, eliminate the interference, and replace the oil supply line as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on November 23, 2015. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-331-332-1590 or Cummins customer service at 1-800-343-7357.
