PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Peterbilt 587 vehicles manufactured between November 11, 2013, and March 7, 2014. The recall addresses a software malfunction in the Cab Electronic Control Unit (CECU). If the driver turns on the high beams, the fog lights are designed to turn off automatically. However, due to the malfunction, the fog lights may turn back on after 10 seconds.

The simultaneous illumination of high beams and fog lights may exceed permissible limits of light output, causing the vehicles to not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108. This excessive light output may blind oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.

PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will update the CECU programming to ensure the fog lights do not turn on when the high beams are active.
