Plain-English summary
PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain model year 2014 Peterbilt 567 and 579 chassis manufactured between January 29, 2013, and October 9, 2013. These vehicles are equipped with Allison-brand transmissions and may be missing the wiring required to illuminate the shifter pad backlighting. This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Controls and Displays."
Without the transmission shifter being illuminated, drivers may not be able to easily identify the current gear. This lack of visibility could result in unintentional vehicle movement, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall began on March 11, 2014. Dealers will install the missing wiring free of charge. Owners may contact PACCAR at 1-940-591-4220 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
