PACCAR Recalls 2013-2019 Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks for Missing Reflectors
PACCAR is recalling 2013-2019 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks because missing reflex reflectors reduce visibility and increase crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety defect that increases the risk of a crash, but the source text does not report any specific injuries, fatalities, or agency classification that would mandate a higher severity score.
Plain-English summary
PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain 2013-2019 Kenworth T680 and T880 and Peterbilt 579 trucks. The affected vehicles are greater than 30 feet long and equipped with side extender mounted intermediate marker lamps or turn signals that do not include a reflex reflector.
These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, which requires both intermediate side marker lamps and reflex reflectors. The missing reflex reflectors can reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will install reflex reflective tape free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2019. Owners may contact PACCAR customer service at 1-918-259-3258 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
