This restriction in the vent line can cause the fuel tank pressure to become excessively negative when the emission control system purges vapors. Repeated purging during normal operation may stress the fuel tank, potentially resulting in a crack and fuel leakage, which increases the risk of fire.

Dealers will inspect and clean the canister vent line and install a spring to prevent spiders from entering. This service will be performed free of charge.
