What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product (scuba equipment with a critical safety function) where a defect directly threatens drowning. Although no injuries have been reported, the source text explicitly identifies a drowning hazard, which meets the High severity criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Cressi-Sub USA Inc., based in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, is recalling scuba buoyancy compensator devices (BCDs) with LP inflator hoses sold through Cressi authorized dealers nationwide between March 2022 and August 2022. About 1,350 units are affected.
The recalled BCDs have defective metal fittings on the inflator hose that can cause airflow restriction, failure to inflate, or improper inflation of the device. This poses a drowning hazard to the user. Only inflator hoses with serial numbers 007/22, 019/22, or 035/22 stamped into the metal fitting are included in the recall. The affected Cressi base models are: Patrol (IC74160), Quartz (JIC74190), Start (IC72170), Start Pro (IC72190), Aquaride (IC74080), Travel Light (IC7406), Commander Evolution (IC771000), and Scorpion (IC77000).
No injuries or deaths have been reported. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled BCDs and contact Cressi-Sub for a free replacement hose with installation instructions and a pre-paid return label. The firm is contacting all known purchasers.
