Plain-English summary
IKEA North America Services LLC is expanding a recall of KRITTER and SNIGLAR junior beds that pose a laceration hazard. The metal rod connecting the guard rail to the bed frame can break in use, creating sharp edges that can cut a child. This recall covers approximately 3,500 additional units, expanding the date stamp range for SNIGLAR beds to 1049 through 1318. The KRITTER beds are made of pine wood with animal cut-outs, while the SNIGLAR beds are made of natural beech wood with white painted fiberboard inserts.
The recalled beds were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online from July 2005 through May 2013 for between $60 and $90. IKEA has received one additional report from the UK of a metal rod on a SNIGLAR bed breaking, resulting in a child receiving a small scratch to the arm. The beds measure about 65 inches long by 30 inches wide with a headboard height of 22 to 26 inches.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled KRITTER and SNIGLAR junior beds. They should contact IKEA toll-free at (888) 966-4532 or visit www.ikea-usa.com to receive a free repair kit.
