What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Plain-English summary
IKEA North America Services LLC is recalling approximately 840,000 HYBY and LOCK ceiling lamps sold in the United States. The recall also covers about 427,000 units sold in Canada. These lamps feature domed white frosted glass shades attached to steel housings by three plastic retaining clips. The HYBY model has a 15-inch shade and holds two bulbs, while the LOCK model has a 10-inch shade and holds one bulb.
The plastic retaining clips can break, allowing the glass shades to fall from the lamps. This poses a laceration hazard to consumers. IKEA has received 224 reports of incidents worldwide where clips broke and shades fell, resulting in 11 injuries. Three incidents with no injuries were reported in the U.S.
The lamps were sold at IKEA stores worldwide and online at www.ikea-usa.com. The HYBY lamps were sold from October 2012 through January 2016 for about $13, and the LOCK lamps were sold from November 2002 through January 2016 for about $5. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lamps, uninstall them, and return them to any IKEA store for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call IKEA toll-free at 888-966-4532 or visit the Product Recalls section of the IKEA website.
