IKEA LETTAN Mirrors Expanded Recall Due to Laceration Hazard

IKEA is expanding a recall of LETTAN flat mirrors because plastic wall fittings can break and cause the mirror to fall, creating a laceration hazard. No injuries have been reported.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The source explicitly states no injuries have been reported, making this a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet occurred. The hazard—falling mirrors causing lacerations—is a credible injury risk that satisfies the High severity criterion for products where harm is possible but not yet reported.

Plain-English summary

IKEA Supply AG is expanding the recall of IKEA LETTAN flat mirrors in all sizes (23, 31, 39, and 47 inches wide, about 38 inches high). The plastic fittings that attach the mirror to the wall can break, causing the mirror to fall and posing a laceration hazard to consumers.

This expanded recall includes LETTAN mirrors with a date stamp before and including 2105 (YYWW format, where the first two digits represent the year and last two represent the week of manufacture), and LETTAN mirrors with supplier number 21944 and a date stamp before and including 2325 (YYWW). The date stamp is located on the back of the mirror.

About 14,600 units are affected in this expansion (in addition to about 10,500 sold in Canada and about 22,400 previously recalled in March 2023). The mirrors were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online at IKEA.com from December 2019 through June 2023 for between $23 and $56. IKEA has received 10 incident reports globally in addition to 55 from the previous recall, with one report of plastic fittings loosening and the mirror falling in the U.S. in addition to one in the previous recall. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mirrors. They can contact IKEA to order a free replacement set of wall fittings with instructions, or return the mirror to any IKEA store for a full refund without requiring proof of purchase. IKEA can be reached toll-free at 888-966-4532 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at www.ikea.com/us/en/customer-service/product-support/recalls or www.ikea.com (click "Product Recalls" at the bottom).
