International trucks may stay in gear with the parking brake applied

International is recalling certain 2023-2026 LT and RH vehicles because the auto neutral function may not recognise that the parking brake has been applied, leaving the transmission in gear.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: the source states the truck may move unexpectedly while the parking brake is applied, and the remedy is replacing a valve rather than a software change.

Plain-English summary

International Motors, LLC is recalling certain 2023-2026 LT and RH vehicles. About 11,418 units are potentially affected.

The auto neutral function may not recognise that the parking brake has been applied, failing to shift the transmission into neutral.

NHTSA states that the transmission remaining in gear may allow the vehicle to move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the quick release valve on the rear axle, free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on March 9, 2026, with another notice once the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
