The recall addresses a software error in the MBUX multimedia system that may deactivate certain vehicle systems, including the cross-traffic alert that applies the brakes automatically in specific driving situations.
The defect poses a safety risk because an automatic emergency braking system that does not function as intended can increase the risk of a crash. Owners of affected vehicles should contact their dealer to have the MBUX multimedia system software and parking control unit settings updated free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed starting November 1, 2024, with additional phases scheduled for November 12, 2024, and January 14, 2025.
