2022 Nissan Titan XD Infotainment Reboot Disables Rearview Display
Nissan is recalling certain 2022 Titan XD and related models because the in-vehicle infotainment system may continuously reboot when restarted, causing the rearview display to become inoperative and reducing rear visibility.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a functional vehicle safety defect (inoperative rearview display) that violates FMVSS 111 and increases crash risk. However, no injuries, deaths, or crashes have been reported. With no actual harm documented, the severity is capped at High rather than Severe per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Nissan is recalling 27,388 certain 2022 model year Nissan Titan XD, Titan, Frontier, and Rogue vehicles, as well as 2021 Rogue vehicles. The issue involves the in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system, which may continuously reboot when the vehicle is restarted. This malfunction can render the rearview display inoperative, reducing the driver's rear visibility.
An inoperative rearview camera display violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 (Rear Visibility) and increases the risk of a crash by limiting the driver's ability to see the area behind the vehicle.
The manufacturer will fix the problem with a free software update to the IVI system. The update can be applied either at a Nissan dealership or through an over-the-air (OTA) update. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed starting November 18, 2022. Owners can contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
