2022 Nissan Pathfinder rearview camera may fail due to software issue
Nissan recalls 2022 Pathfinder rental vehicles where a software defect can disable the rearview camera, increasing crash risk. Affected customers will receive a free software update via dealer or over-the-air update.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a real defect in a safety-critical system (rear visibility), but no crashes or injuries have been reported. The software-based defect with a readily available fix scores as High rather than Severe.
Plain-English summary
Nissan North America is recalling certain rental vehicles: 2022 Pathfinder, 2021-2022 Rogue, 2022 Frontier, and 2022 Titan models, affecting approximately 10,477 vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the infotainment system software.
When the Sirius XM subscription is set to 'Not Subscribed,' the infotainment head unit may reboot unexpectedly, causing the rearview camera display to become inoperative. A non-functional rearview camera reduces the driver's rear visibility and increases the risk of a crash. The defect causes these vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111, which governs rear visibility requirements.
Nissan will provide a free software update to correct this issue. The update can be installed by a dealer or delivered through an over-the-air (OTA) download. Owners should contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 for assistance, or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
