A software error may disable the rear-view camera display in 2021 INFINITI Q60 vehicles, reducing rear visibility and increasing crash risk. Nissan will update the software at no cost.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This recall addresses a safety-critical feature (rear visibility), and the defect increases crash risk. However, no injuries or deaths have been reported. Per the rubric, a vehicle defect with stated harm risk but no reported injuries scores as High (3).

Plain-English summary

Nissan North America is recalling certain 2021 INFINITI Q60, Q50, and QX80 vehicles due to a software error in the audio/video control unit. The error may deactivate the rear-view camera display screen.

Without the rear-view image, the driver's rear visibility is reduced, increasing the risk of a crash when backing. These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111, which requires rear visibility.

If you own an affected vehicle, contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153). Nissan dealers will update the control unit software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 14, 2021.
