What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall affects safety equipment (rear visibility, FMVSS 111 compliance) with a clear potential for increased crash risk. However, no injuries, illnesses, or deaths have been reported. Per the rubric, recalls involving risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported are classified as High (3).
Plain-English summary
Tesla, Inc. is recalling certain 2023, 2024, and 2025 Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles. The affected vehicles have a computer circuit board that may short or experience stress that leads to a short circuit, disabling the rearview camera display. This violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 111, which requires rear visibility capability.
The loss of rearview camera image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash. A total of 239,382 vehicles are potentially affected by this issue.
Tesla has released a free over-the-air (OTA) software update to address this issue. The company will also identify any vehicles that experienced or may experience circuit board failure and replace the affected computer hardware at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 7, 2025.
Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 or Tesla's recall hotline. Vehicle owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit nhtsa.gov for more information.
