2023 Western Star and Freightliner trucks recalled for engine control module defect

A total of 1,375 vehicles are affected.

The engine control module (ECM) in these vehicles may experience an internal short-circuit. This defect can result in an unexpected engine shutdown while the vehicle is in operation.

An unexpected engine shutdown increases the risk of a crash, posing a safety hazard to vehicle operators and others on the road.

Daimler Trucks North America will replace the affected ECM free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 26, 2022.
