Nova Bus 2023 LFS Artic coolant sensor could cause unexpected engine shutdown

Nova Bus is recalling certain 2023 LFS Artic and 2022-2024 LFS buses because a coolant sensor could send a false signal, causing the engine to shut down unexpectedly and increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting the engine control system. An unexpected engine shutdown while a bus is in operation significantly increases the risk of a crash, and structural vehicle defects meet NHTSA severity level 4 criteria.

Plain-English summary

Nova Bus (US) Inc. is recalling certain 2023 Nova Bus LFS Artic and 2022-2024 Nova Bus LFS transit buses. The coolant sensor in the engine cooling system could send a false signal, causing the engine to shut down unexpectedly while the bus is in operation.

An unexpected engine shutdown while driving increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, when passengers need to be transferred from a disabled bus, there is an increased risk of injury during the evacuation process.

Nova Bus will inspect and replace the coolant sensor as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 20, 2025. Owners should contact Nova Bus customer service at 1-800-350-6682 for service, or they can contact NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
