Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain 2018–2021 International LoneStar and 2016–2021 International LT vehicles for a defect in the battery cable system. The cables that connect the batteries to the vehicle frame may become excessively hot and, in some cases, cause the battery post to separate from the battery.
The overheating cables pose two safety risks. First, the excessively hot cables can cause personal injury to owners or technicians during battery maintenance repairs. Second, if the battery post separates, it can cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the alternator positive and ground cables and relocate the alternator ground to the starter, free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed September 26, 2022. Owners can contact Navistar's customer service at 1-800-448-7825 for more information. The NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline is also available at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
