2021-2023 International MV Vehicles Recalled for High-Voltage Cable Mislabeling
Navistar is recalling certain 2021-2023 International MV vehicles due to mislabeled high-voltage battery cables that could be mistaken for de-energized cables, risking electrical shock to technicians or first responders.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a risk-of-harm hazard—high-voltage electrical shock—but no injuries or illnesses have been reported. The mislabeling of critical safety cables presents a genuine risk to technicians and first responders, warranting a proactive recall despite the absence of documented incidents.
Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain 2021-2023 International MV vehicles. The high-voltage positive cables connecting the battery packs to the manual service disconnects (MSD) may have been mislabeled on affected vehicles.
A misidentified electrical cable may be mistaken for a de-energized cable by a technician or first responder, increasing the risk of electrical shock and injury. The proper labeling of high-voltage cables is critical to worker safety when servicing or responding to emergencies involving these vehicles.
Navistar began notifying affected owners by mail on January 13, 2023. Dealers will reinstall the battery cables and replace the associated warning labels free of charge. Remedy parts were expected to become available in the first quarter of 2023. Owners of recalled vehicles can contact Navistar's customer service at 1-800-448-7825. For more information, owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
