Plain-English summary
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling 3,735 certain 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander vehicles. The front and second-row passenger seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate prematurely.
When the retractors deactivate early, child restraint systems cannot secure properly to the vehicle seat. This creates a safety defect that violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208 (Occupant Crash Protection).
An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury to children during a crash. MMNA has not reported any injuries or accidents related to this defect.
Owners should contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820 or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information. Dealers will inspect and replace the affected front and second-row seat belt assemblies at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 28, 2021.
