What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall affects a critical vehicle safety system (air bags) where the manufacturing defect could prevent proper deployment during a crash or cause debris ejection. No injuries or deaths have been reported, placing this at the High severity level per the rubric criterion of risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain Audi vehicles from model years 2019 through 2021. The affected vehicles include the S7, S6, A6, A7, A6 Allroad, RS6 Avant, and RS7 models.
The recall involves the passenger side air bag. The score line on the air bag may not have been manufactured correctly. As a result, the air bag may not deploy properly during a crash, or it could eject plastic debris into the passenger compartment. This increases the risk of injury to passengers.
To remedy the problem, Audi will notify owners, and authorized Audi dealers will inspect the passenger air bag score line and repair it as necessary, at no cost. The recall process began on March 26, 2021. Owners can contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 to schedule an inspection and repair. For additional information, owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
