General Motors Recalls 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS for Air Bag Defect
General Motors is recalling 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS vehicles because a defect in the passenger sensing system may prevent the front passenger air bag from deploying in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (air bag non-deployment) that increases the risk or severity of injury in a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS vehicles. The recall involves a condition where repeated flexing of the passenger sensing system mat in the front passenger seat may cause the mat to kink, bend, or fold. This flexing can break the connections in the mat, causing the sensor to fail to detect the presence of a front seat passenger and subsequently disable the air bag.
If the front passenger air bag does not deploy in a crash where deployment is necessary, the protection of the passenger may be reduced, increasing the risk or severity of injury. Dealers will replace the passenger sensing system free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about March 15, 2011.
