2023 Kia Telluride air bag wire harness defect recall
Kia is recalling 2023 Telluride vehicles because manufacturing defects in second row side air bag wire harnesses may prevent them from deploying in a crash. Owners should contact their Kia dealer for free inspection and repair.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall affects a critical safety system (air bags) and constitutes a structural vehicle defect where a manufacturing error may prevent safety features from deploying in a crash. While no injuries have been reported, air bag non-deployment in crashes poses significant risk of injury.
Plain-English summary
Kia America, Inc. is recalling certain 2023 Telluride vehicles due to a manufacturing error. Wire harnesses for the second row seat side air bags may become damaged during manufacturing, which could prevent the air bags from deploying properly in a crash.
Air bags that do not deploy as intended can significantly increase the risk of injury to occupants in a crash. The second row side air bags are an important safety feature designed to protect passengers.
Affected owners should contact their nearest Kia dealer or Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 to schedule a free inspection. Dealers will inspect and replace, or secure, the affected wire harnesses as necessary. Owner notification letters were mailed starting February 28, 2023.
