What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect involving the brake system with serious potential consequences. However, the source reports no injuries, illnesses, or crashes, making the hazard theoretical. Per the rubric, recalls with no reported incidents and theoretical hazards score at most 3 (High).
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling the 2020 Cadillac CT5 due to a defect in the electronic brake boost system. Affected vehicles may have sensor connection contamination that interrupts communication between the sensor and the brake boost module.
If the sensor communication is interrupted, the electronic brake boost assist will be lost. This means drivers will need to apply significantly more force to the brake pedal to slow or stop the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the electronic brake boost module at no cost. The remedy began December 9, 2020. For more information, owners can contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit www.safercar.gov.
