What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting the critical integrated brake system. Although no crashes or injuries have been reported, the malfunction directly threatens both braking power and vehicle control, creating significant risk of serious accidents.
Plain-English summary
BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2024 BMW i7 M70 vehicles (and other 2023-2024 BMW models) for a defect in the integrated brake module. The module may malfunction, causing loss of power brake assist or failure of the Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems.
A loss of power brake assist increases the distance required to stop the vehicle. If the ABS or DSC systems malfunction, vehicle control may be lost. These conditions can significantly increase the risk of a crash.
Affected vehicles include the 2024 i7 M70, 760i, i7 eDrive50, i7 xDrive60, 530i, 530i xDrive, i5 eDrive40, i5 M60 xDrive, 740i, 750e xDrive, X1, X5, X6, X7, and XM, as well as certain 2023 model year vehicles. Owners will receive notification letters starting November 22, 2024, with a second letter when parts become available.
BMW dealers will replace the integrated brake module free of charge. Note that vehicles previously repaired under recall 24V-104 will need this additional repair. Owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 for more information, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
