BMW and MINI vehicles brake system failure integrated module welds break
BMW and MINI are recalling certain 2023–2025 vehicles because welds in the brake control module may break, causing loss of power brake assist, rear brakes, and stability control. This increases crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect (brake and stability control failure) that increases crash risk. No illnesses, injuries, or deaths are reported in the source text, but the hazard involves critical safety systems whose failure directly creates serious risk of harm, placing it in the High category per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2023–2025 BMW and MINI vehicles, including the 2025 740i, X5, X6, X7, 530i, 540i, i7, 750e, X2, i5, XM, and 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre, as well as 2025 MINI Countryman S ALL4, JCW Countryman ALL4, Cooper, and Cooper S models. The welds in the servomotor of the integrated brake control module may break.
When the welds fail, owners may experience loss of power brake assist and rear brake function. Additionally, the Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system may not function. These failures can result in extended stopping distance and loss of vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the integrated brake system free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 13, 2024. Owners can contact BMW Customer Service at 1-800-525-7417 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit nhtsa.gov.
