What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (missing safety lights/reflectors) that increases the risk of a crash, but no injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Vac-Tron Equipment, LLC is recalling certain 2015-2019 LP873SDT Heavy, Vacuum Excavator-dual axle trailers. These vehicles may lack front and rear lights, including clearance lamps, reflex reflectors, and side reflex reflectors. Additionally, the trailers may have an insufficient amount of reflective tape on the sides and rear. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

The lack of lamps and insufficient reflective tape may make the trailer not visible at night, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall began on August 1, 2019.

Owners should contact Vac-Tron customer service at 1-888-822-8766. Dealers will move the marker lights to the compliant position and install lower chassis extension, conspicuity tape, and reflectors free of charge. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
