Vac-Tron Recalls 140 Trucks for Rear Extremity Safety Defect

Vac-Tron is recalling 140 trucks because the rear extends too far, increasing injury risk in rear-end crashes.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where a rear-end collision could cause a vehicle to slide under the truck, increasing the risk of injury, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects.

Plain-English summary

Vac-Tron Equipment, LLC is recalling certain 2015-2022 HTV 373 PTO, JTV 873 PTO, HTV 873 PTO, and HTV 573 PTO vehicles. The recall affects 140 units in total. The defect involves a rear extremity that extends more than 24 inches behind the rear impact guard.

This design flaw creates a safety hazard where a vehicle crashing into the back of the truck could travel under the rear of the truck, increasing the risk of injury to occupants of the striking vehicle.

Vac-Tron will notify owners, and dealers will install a remedy kit to prevent vehicles from going under the truck in a crash. The kits and installation will be free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 5, 2022. Owners may contact Vac-Tron customer service at 1-352-728-2222 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
