Transtech Recalls 2015-2016 School Buses Due to Seat Padding Defect

Transportation Collaborative is recalling 2015-2016 Trans Tech school buses because seat mounting studs lack adequate padding, increasing injury risk in rear-end collisions.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for vehicle defects with potential for injury but no confirmed fatalities or serious injuries in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Transportation Collaborative, Inc. (Transtech) is recalling certain 2015-2016 Trans Tech SST, ST Aero, and SST FLR school buses. These vehicles were built on Chevrolet chassis and equipped with specific CE White-brand QS11 Series convertible school bus seats.

The defect involves integral D-Ring mounting studs on the seats that may have inadequate padding between the occupant and the stud. In the event of a rear-end collision, the seat occupant's head may contact the D-ring mounting stud, which increases the risk of injury.

Transtech will notify owners, and dealers will add the proper padding free of charge. The recall began on November 15, 2017. Owners may contact Transtech customer service at 1-845-988-0419 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
