Trans Tech Recalls School Buses Due to Seat Cushion Latch Defect

Trans Tech Bus is recalling certain model year 2009 through 2011 school buses manufactured between May 2010 and July 2011. These vehicles are equipped with C. E. White seat cushions that have a self-latching mechanism which may fail to activate. As a result, the seats do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 222, "School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection."

If the seat cushion is not fully latched to the seat structure, it could flip up out of position in the event of a crash. This condition could increase the risk of injury to the vehicle occupants.

Trans Tech will notify owners, and dealers will repair the seats free of charge. The safety recall began on March 7, 2012. Owners may contact Trans Tech at 1-845-988-0419 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
