The defect involves a software error in the engine control module (ECM). If the signal is lost from one of the two throttle position sensors (TPS), the ECM enters a fail-safe mode that partially closes the throttle chamber. If the lost signal is subsequently restored, the throttle chamber may open regardless of the position signal from the TPS. This can cause the vehicle to gradually accelerate unexpectedly, which increases the risk of a crash.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ECM free of charge. The recall began on November 10, 2014. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
