Plain-English summary
Wilson Trailer Company is recalling certain model year 2011 grain trailers manufactured between October 15, 2010, and January 31, 2011. These vehicles are equipped with Gunite automatic slack adjusters that may have a manufacturing defect.
The defect involves an incomplete "knitting" of the iron during the casting process, which can result in inadequate structural integrity of the slack adjuster housing. Under normal operating loads, the housing could break at the handle. This failure could cause the slack adjusters to crack under normal braking conditions, resulting in a loss of braking capability and increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Owners should contact Wilson Trailer or Accuride to have the slack adjusters replaced free of charge. The safety recall began on October 10, 2011. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit safercar.gov for more information.
