Wilson Trailer Company is recalling 2006-2015 Grain trailers because welds on the kingpin assembly may fail, potentially causing the trailer to detach from the tractor.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (kingpin weld failure) that could lead to trailer detachment and a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Wilson Trailer Company is recalling certain model year 2006-2015 Grain trailers manufactured between January 1, 2006, and March 31, 2015. The recall involves 1,890 units where the welds attaching the bolster plate to the pickup plate around the kingpin may fail. This failure could result in the kingpin separating from the pickup plate.
If the kingpin separates, the trailer could detach from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash. Wilson will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the aluminum kingpin assemblies for cracked or failed welds, repairing them as necessary. Additionally, a new forged steel kingpin will be installed with supplemental fasteners.
These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on July 29, 2015. Owners may contact Wilson customer service at 1-800-798-2002 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Wilson's number for this recall is 323D.
