Vermeer Recalls HG6000TX Trailers Due to Kingpin Wear Risk
Vermeer is recalling three HG6000TX horizontal grinder trailers because a defective kingpin may fail, causing the trailer to separate from the towing vehicle.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (kingpin failure) that could cause the trailer to separate, posing a risk of significant injury or property damage, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects.
Plain-English summary
Vermeer Manufacturing Company is recalling three model year 2012 and 2013 HG6000TX horizontal grinder trailers. These units were manufactured between July 20, 2012, and August 21, 2012, and are equipped with a dolly transport option that converts the tracked grinder into a trailer.
The recall is due to incorrect machining of the kingpin used in the assembly. This defect can cause excessive wear on the kingpin, which may lead to its failure. If the kingpin fails, the trailer could separate from the towing vehicle, potentially striking another vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander, resulting in property damage or personal injury.
Vermeer will notify owners, and dealers will replace the kingpin free of charge. The safety recall began on November 19, 2012. Owners may contact Vermeer at 1-800-829-0051 or 1-641-621-7060, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
