Horizon Fitness Recalls 2000/2001 Paragon, Quantum, and Omega Treadmills

Horizon Fitness, of DeForest, Wis., is recalling approximately 5,900 2000/2001 model year Paragon, Quantum, and Omega treadmills. The recall does not include 2002 model products, such as the Omega II, Quantum II, Paragon II, and Alpine.
A component of the electronic control panel can malfunction, causing the motor and walking belt to rapidly accelerate. This malfunction can cause the user to lose balance and fall. Horizon Fitness and the CPSC have received 15 reports of consumers losing their balance and falling off the treadmill, with injuries including cuts and abrasions.
These treadmills were sold nationwide at sporting goods stores, including Total Fitness Solutions, Fitness Warehouse, and Play It Again Sports, from November 2000 through June 2001 for between $699 and $1,099. Consumers should stop using these treadmills immediately and contact Horizon Fitness toll-free at (866) 864-3840 or (888) 993-3199 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday to receive a repair kit and set up an appointment for an in-home repair.
