Hyundai Santa Fe rearview camera wiring may be damaged on installation

Hyundai is recalling certain 2024-2025 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid vehicles because the rearview camera may not have been installed properly, damaging the wiring harness so the image does not display.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm where injury has not yet been reported: a rear visibility aid may not display, but the vehicle retains control and propulsion and no incidents are recorded.

Plain-English summary

Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2024-2025 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid vehicles. About 143,472 units are potentially affected.

The rearview camera may not have been installed properly, which can damage the wiring harness and cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility".

NHTSA states that a rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the camera wiring harness free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning January 15, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
