Ford rearview cameras may show a blank or persistent image
Ford is recalling a wide range of 2018-2024 vehicles because a software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank image, or leave the image on screen after backing has ended.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm where injury has not yet been reported: a rear visibility aid may fail or persist, but the vehicle retains control and propulsion and no incidents are recorded.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2018-2022 Transit Connect, 2019-2020 MKZ, MKX, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus and Fusion, 2019-2023 Ranger and Mustang, 2020-2021 EcoSport, Expedition and Navigator, 2020-2022 Escape, F-250 SD and Corsair, 2020-2023 Aviator and Transit, 2020-2024 Explorer, 2021-2024 Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. About 200,237 units are potentially affected.
A software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank image, or the image may remain on the display after the backing event has ended.
NHTSA states that a blank image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, and that an image which continues to display after shifting out of reverse may distract the driver.
Dealers will update the rearview camera software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 4, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 25S72, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
