Genesis instrument panel display can fail hiding speedometer and warning lights

Hyundai is recalling certain 2023-2025 Genesis G80, GV80 and GV70 vehicles because a software error may cause the instrument panel display to fail, failing FMVSS 101.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm where injury has not yet been reported: the display of information may fail while the vehicle itself retains control, propulsion and braking, and no incidents are recorded.

Plain-English summary

Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain Genesis 2023-2024 G80 and GV80, 2025 GV70, and 2023-2025 GV70 "Electrified" vehicles. About 32,594 units are potentially affected.

Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Controls and Displays".

NHTSA states that an instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and update the instrument panel display software as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 26, 2025. Owners may contact Genesis customer service at 1-844-340-9741, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
