Peterbilt and Kenworth truck throttle pedals can stick

PACCAR is recalling certain 2023-2024 Peterbilt 535, 536, 537, 548, Kenworth T280, T380, T480 and 2024 T180 trucks because an oversized magnet carrier can slow the throttle pedal or make it stick.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: a physically oversized part in the throttle assembly can cause the pedal to stick, taking speed control away from the driver of a heavy truck.

Plain-English summary

PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain 2023-2024 Peterbilt 535, 536, 537 and 548, 2023-2024 Kenworth T280, T380 and T480, and 2024 Kenworth T180 trucks. About 1,110 units are potentially affected.

The throttle pedal assembly may contain an oversized magnet carrier, slowing the responsiveness or causing the pedal to stick.

NHTSA states that a pedal that sticks increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the throttle pedal as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed on April 11, 2025. Owners may contact Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220 or Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
