Plain-English summary
PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain 2023 Kenworth and Peterbilt vehicles due to a defect in the steering linkage. The affected models include the Kenworth T370, T480, T800, T800B, T880, W900B, and W990, as well as the Peterbilt 348, 367, 389, 548, and 567.
The tie rod clamps on these vehicles may have been improperly heat-treated. This defect can cause the clamps to fail, allowing the tie rods to separate. Tie rod separation can result in a sudden loss of steering, which increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace both tie rod clamps free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on December 16, 2022. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888 or Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220. PACCAR's recall numbers are 22PBJ and 22KWJ.
