Kenworth T680 Trucks May Lose Drive Power Due to High-Voltage Contactor Failure
PACCAR is recalling certain 2021–2025 Kenworth T680 and Peterbilt 520 and 579 trucks due to failing high-voltage electrical contactors that cause sudden loss of drive power, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall concerns a defect in critical electrical systems that can cause loss of drive power during operation, creating a risk of crash. No injuries or deaths have been reported, and the crash risk remains theoretical at this time, placing this in the High category per the criterion for risk-of-harm products without yet-realized injury.
Plain-English summary
PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain Kenworth T680 trucks from 2021 through 2025, along with Peterbilt 520 and 579 trucks from 2022 through 2025. The recall affects approximately 238 vehicles total.
The high-voltage electrical contactors in these trucks may fail and open unexpectedly, causing a sudden loss of high-voltage power. When high voltage is lost, drive power is also lost. A loss of drive power while the vehicle is in motion increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge by updating the software and replacing the electrical harness. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2025. Kenworth owners can contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888, and Peterbilt owners can contact Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220 to schedule repairs.
