Cadillac XT5 and XT6 instrument panel illumination failure
General Motors is recalling certain 2023–2025 Cadillac XT5 and 2024–2025 Cadillac XT6 vehicles because the instrument panel may not illuminate when hazard warning lights, high beams, or turn signals are activated. Drivers may fail to turn off unwanted lights, potentially confusing other drivers.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The defect creates a risk-of-harm scenario where drivers may fail to turn off lights or leave them activated unintentionally, potentially confusing other drivers and increasing crash risk. No injuries or deaths have been reported, meeting the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
General Motors is recalling certain 2023–2025 Cadillac XT5 and 2024–2025 Cadillac XT6 vehicles. The issue is that the instrument panel may not illuminate when the hazard warning lights, high beams, or turn signals are activated.
The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 101 (Controls and Displays) and 108 (Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment). Without the illuminated reminder on the dashboard, a driver could fail to turn off lights when they are no longer needed. Hazard warning lights, high beams, or turn signals that remain activated unintentionally can confuse other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
General Motors will remedy this issue by having dealers update the instrument panel software at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 13, 2024. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
