2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Missing Bumper Foam May Prevent Airbag Deployment
Certain 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokees may be missing foam in the front bumper, which could prevent the front airbags from deploying during a crash. Dealers will install the foam at no cost.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural defect involving the airbag system, a safety-critical component. However, there are no reported injuries or deaths associated with this defect. The hazard is theoretical, occurring only if the vehicle is involved in a frontal crash and the missing foam prevents airbag deployment.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler is recalling certain 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles due to a defect in the front bumper. The bumper may be missing energy-absorbing foam, a critical component that helps ensure the front airbags deploy properly during a crash.
When the foam is missing, the front airbags may not deploy as intended. This can increase the risk of injury to occupants in a frontal crash. The defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208, which establishes safety requirements for occupant crash protection.
Approximately 7 vehicles are affected. Owners were notified by mail on May 30, 2024. Owners can contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule an appointment. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and install the missing foam at no charge. For more information, owners can visit www.nhtsa.gov or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236.
