Jeep Grand Cherokee side airbags may not deploy in a crash

Chrysler is recalling certain 2022-2024 Grand Cherokee and 2021-2024 Grand Cherokee L vehicles because an improperly secured connector may prevent the front seat side airbags deploying. All units have been remedied.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: an unsecured connector can prevent the side airbags deploying, removing occupant protection in a side impact.

Plain-English summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2021-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles. Fourteen vehicles are potentially affected.

An improperly secured connector for the front seat side air bags may prevent the air bags from deploying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214, "Side Impact Protection".

NHTSA states that an air bag that does not deploy during a crash increases the risk of injury.

Dealers secured the connector free of charge, and all affected vehicles have been remedied. Owner notification letters were mailed on December 17, 2024. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403, referencing recall number B3B, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
