Chrysler Recalls Steering Column Modules for Air Bag Deployment Risk
Chrysler is recalling MOPAR steering column control modules used in 2017-2024 Jeep, Chrysler, and Ram vehicles because improper welding may prevent the driver's air bag from deploying.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (air bag non-deployment) that increases the risk of injury in a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain MOPAR steering column control modules. These modules are used as replacement parts in specific 2017-2024 Jeep, Chrysler, and Ram vehicles. The recall addresses a defect where the steering column control module may not be welded properly.
This improper welding can prevent the driver's air bag from deploying in a crash. As a result, these control modules fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." An air bag that does not deploy in a crash can increase the risk of injury.
Dealers will inspect and replace, or repurchase the steering column control module, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 2, 2024. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
