RAM pickup trucks steering column control module air bag risk

Chrysler is recalling certain 2021–2022 RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 vehicles because the steering column control module may prevent the driver's side air bag from deploying in a crash, increasing injury risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting occupant safety systems (frontal air bags). The failure of a safety-critical component to deploy in a crash creates significant risk of injury, meeting the Severe (4) threshold.

Plain-English summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021 and 2022 RAM 1500, RAM 2500, RAM 3500, RAM 4500, and RAM 5500 vehicles. The steering column control module in these vehicles may cause the driver's side air bag not to deploy as intended. As a result, these vehicles do not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

A driver's side air bag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of injury in a crash. The remedy is free replacement of the steering column control module by dealers.
