What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a documented defect in a critical safety system (airbag deployment mechanism) that directly affects occupant crash protection. The structural vehicle defect affecting a safety-critical system meets the criterion for Severe (Score 4) classification, even though no injuries have been reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) (Stellantis) is recalling certain 2023-2024 vehicles, including Jeep Wrangler, Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Ram 3500, Ram 4500, Ram 5500, Jeep Wagoneer, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Jeep Gladiator, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Chrysler Pacifica, and Chrysler Voyager. The recall affects approximately 38,164 vehicles.
The steering column control module in these vehicles may not be welded properly, which can prevent the driver's frontal airbag from deploying in a crash. This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, which requires proper occupant crash protection.
An airbag that fails to deploy in a crash significantly increases the risk of injury to the driver. Owners should contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule service. Dealers will inspect and replace the steering column control module free of charge. Some owner notification letters were mailed between April 11, 2024 and June 20, 2024. For additional information, owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
