Chrysler is recalling specific Mopar Occupant Restraint Controller Modules because a software error may prevent the driver's air bag or seat belt pretensioner from deploying and disable electronic stability control.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where safety systems (air bags, pretensioners, ESC) may fail to deploy or function, significantly increasing the risk of injury in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain Mopar Occupant Restraint Controller Modules with part numbers 68599746AD, 68599750AE, and 68599752AE. This recall addresses a software error in the occupant restraint control module that may cause the driver's side air bag and/or seat belt pretensioner not to deploy in a crash. Additionally, the error may disable the electronic stability control (ESC) system. As a result, this equipment fails to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," and 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
Driving with a disabled electronic stability control system increases the risk of a crash. Furthermore, a driver's side air bag or seat belt pretensioner that does not deploy increases the risk of injury in a crash.
Dealers will update the occupant restraint control module software free of charge. If the occupant restraint controller module is not installed in a vehicle, dealers will repurchase it.
