General Motors is recalling certain 2024 model year Buick Envista, Buick Encore GX, and Chevrolet Trax vehicles for a software defect in the Virtual Cockpit Unit Module (VCU). Approximately 60,154 potential units are affected.

The software in the VCU may cause the instrument panel display to intermittently go blank at vehicle startup or while driving. A blank instrument panel will not show critical information such as vehicle speed and warning lights, which could increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy is free of charge. The VCU software will be updated either through a dealer service appointment or through an over-the-air (OTA) update. Owner notification letters were mailed on December 4, 2023.
